AIESEC In Nigeria Embraces Social Entrepreneurship

Good news! The big organization AIESEC has started paying enormous attention to the Social Entrepreneurship tool to tackle social issues in many countries. This time is in Nigeria!

If you haven’t heard about AIESEC, it’s the largest youth-run organization in the world present in 113 countries with over 86000 members. Its primary aim is to develop youth leadership worldwide to make impacts and innovations through leadership activities. I also appreciate its ethos to embrace diversity and individuality.

Diversity in AIESEC organization

Guess what? AIESEC in Nigeria just declared that it would now take Social Entrepreneurship seriously to offer the rights for everybody to make change, not just the government. The guest speaker of the Omolayole Management Lecture, Mr. Seni Adetu – Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guinness Nigeria Plc holds:

“I realized that to drive change in the nation, the key is to educate future business leaders.”

Also, there was one Social Entrepreneurship project by AIESEC in Jakarta, Indonesia last year in February which was carried out successfully. AIESEC also mentions the practicality of Social Entrepreneurship in its resource handbooks. Most remarkably, its blog contains a lot of profound stories about Changemaking through Social Entrepreneurship.

That AIESEC adopts Social Entrepreneurship as a way for its members to create an impact in the community is causally beneficial.

On one hand, AIESEC will be welcomed to a whole set of toolkit that Social Entrepreneurship already has. The organization can also make use of the guidelines for Social Entrepreneurship.

On the other hand, Social Entrepreneurship will have its concepts, ethos and examples widely spread throughout local AIESEC organizations, making the impact even more profound.

It utterly enlightens me on hearing this news, as I personally have a network with AIESEC FTU Hanoi through attending and assisting some of its events. It simply comes to me that someday when AIESEC in Hanoi is also open to Social Entrepreneurship as a professional strategy in approaching business and impact making, it will be a powerful stimulant for the Hanoi youth regarding the influence of the organization locally.
